What a small world .. what a lovely surprise!
I have been living in Canmore for almost two years. Canmore is a little Bow Valley town inhabited by less than 15,000 people. Moving from Calgary that is 80 KM away and inhabited by more than a million Albertans, what are the chances of meeting someone related to what I do, i.e. promoting Arab arts?!
my partner is a musician .. her best friend is .. her best friend hosts the nicest and richest music experience in town .. the monthly kitchen jam!
It took me more than a year to discover that this lovely person is a descendant of the great Arab-American philosopher and poet, Gibran Khalil Gibran!!
Really?! YOU .. MAJA .. GIBRAN?! WOW .. who would've known!
You did wrote what? GROOVEY!!!
May I borrow that book, written by your dad?
May I ask for a another favor?
The Arab Heritage Month is in April .. I'm planning to go Alberta-wide with Arab themed activities. Can I program you to be the highlight of an event at the #artsPlace? I want you to play your mandolin and recite Gibran's poetry .. PLEASE!!!
If I may impose on you to review the book as well ..
Did you even know that the Arab American institute's annual GALA is taking place tonight? Did you know that they are naming it after Gibran? Tonight, in Washington D.C. the AAI are organizing their 22nd Annual Kahlil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards Gala.
Who would've known?!
The Kahlil Gibran Spirit of Humanity Awards were launched in 1999 to focus attention on acts of leadership and commitment to promoting the common good. The awards are named for the author of The Prophet who hails from Lebanon and whose philosophy, poetry, and art demonstrate a profound commitment to equality, responsibility, understanding, and generosity. Gibran’s message of human endurance and triumph was evident throughout his life and work. While never losing sight of his heritage, he honored all that was decent and extraordinary about the United States and its appeal to peoples throughout the world.
Did you know that the Calgary Arab Arts & Culture Society will also be organizing its 1st ever GALA night in Calgary in April?
Back to your art, would you be OK playing your Mandolin while having another Arab musician jamming with you on their OUD?
I am impressed with the coincidence .. and can't wait to see where opportunities will take us .. but as a start, I look forward to reading and reviewing your dad's book ..
