The Calgary Arab Film Nights Festival

Some founding members of our team have been bringing Arab film to Calgarians for over a decade now! The current version of the film festival, Calgary Arab Film Nights, is now in its tenth year. Over the past decade we have been proud to showcase Arab culture through dozens of films from a variety of countries and genres, hosting thought-provoking discussions, and offering authentic food, music, and visual art. In 2020, we even expanded our offerings to all of Western Canada through our virtual film lineup. We are thrilled to once again show the diversity, beauty, and rich culture and history of the Arab world, and bring either a piece of home or a brand new experience to Calgarians.

2024

For internal re-organization, this year, this year’s weekend festival was replaced by a Partnership to play a film at the Calgary Justice Film Festival. The Syrian film “Black Rain in My Eyes” was supported and followed by a discussion where the Calgary Arab Arts & Culture Society’s Chairperson, Mr. Moness Rizkalla, shared the stage with the Artistic Director of the Lunch Box Theatre, Ms. Bronwyn Steinberg who led an eye opening discussion after screening the film, Israelism.

Before the Calgary Arab Film Nights Festival .. it was the Calgary Arab Film Festival

Three years before the founding of the Calgary Arab Arts & Culture Society, the founders were part of the short-lived Calgary Arab Film Festival. During the three years of the lifetime of the earlier organization, three copies of the Arab Film Festival were organized.
